Today is going to be an amazing day of cycling through the incredible basaltic lava fields! We'll be learning about the fascinating history of this land, which dates back to 140 million years ago. Back then, it was part of a vast ocean, and we'll see evidence of that in the sedimentary rocks, fossils, and other fossils we'll find along the way. It was an incredible volcanic eruption that covered half of the area with basaltic lava layers!
Spanning an impressive 4,760 km², the Dak Nong Geological Park encompasses the districts of Krong No, Cu Jut, Dak Mil, Dak Song, Dak G'long, and Gia Nghia town. This incredible park boasts a whopping 65 geological and geographic heritage sites! The Serrepok River is as majestic as a white silk strip in the northern belt of the Park with dozens of large and small waterfalls. And downstream of the Seprepok River, there's the incredible Trinh Nu Waterfall! It's made up of large black columnar basalt rocks that are between 2 and 5 million years old. They're right in the middle of the river, or protruding from the bank in some strange shapes.
This incredible land is a treasure trove of diverse geology and geological heritage, biological diversity, social diversity, and cultural heritage. It fully meets the criteria of a global Geopark!

Day 11: Bao Loc – Da Lat

Da Lat is the incredible capital city of Lam Dong province, Vietnam (Dalat or Da Lat). It's the City of Flowers and a dream destination for honeymooners with its lovely French villas, fresh air, beautiful waterfalls, and gorgeous lakes. It sits in a lush and green valley of postcard beauty, and it's simply breathtaking! Dalat is home to some truly unique sights, including a pine forest that gives the city its name and boasts thousands of these magnificent trees. The forest is connected by winding roads and is filled with vibrant tree marigolds and cherry blossoms in the winter. The city's temperate weather is a welcome contrast to Vietnam's otherwise tropical climate. Mist covers the valleys almost year-round, giving it the perfect name: the City of Eternal Spring! Spring is eternal and a truly unique season in Da Lat.
It's also called "Little Paris" ("Le Petit Paris" in French) due to its gorgeous French architecture, villas, and its amazing replica of the Eiffel Tower built by the Telephone Company that looks like it fell into a pool of red and white color—it's truly a sight to behold!
And truly, after cycling through tea gardens, coffee and rubber plantations, it feels as if you've been transported to Europe! Absolutely! Back in the day, when Dalat was still under French rule, the French officials had this brilliant idea to set up the city as "Le Petit Paris" (A Little Paris). They wanted to create the perfect resort city and a top-notch education center for their lives in Indochina. And they did it! They built a place that was far from their native land, remote France. Dalat was even the capital of the Federation of Indochina during World War II!
