Itinerary
We'd love to welcome you on our 10-day Vietnam Northern Bicycle Holiday! It's one of our absolute favourites, and we think you'll agree that it offers some of the best cycling terrain in Vietnam. We've designed our cycle route to avoid the tourist hotspots and the notorious highways, so you can enjoy a truly off-the-beaten-track experience! The Vietnamese landscape is absolutely stunning! You'll see amazing karstic rock formations, stilted houses with thatched roofs, and mountains nestled between limestone outcrops. This region is home to the highest concentration of hill-tribe people in Vietnam, which is really special.
Join us on our Vietnam Northern Cycle Tours, which start from the Ha Giang Cycling Loop to Hoang Su Phi. It's a truly special way to experience the daily life of the Vietnamese people, discover the rich culture and vibrant tribal communities, explore the world's incredible cultural and natural heritage sites, and meet the warm and welcoming locals. And of course, you'll get to enjoy some of the most delicious food in the world!
As you cycle through this beautiful, untouched region, you'll have the chance to meet the lovely hill tribe people, join their regular markets to see what their daily lives are like, and take some lovely photos of the animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, buffalo, and cows.
We'll kick off our cycling adventure in Ha Giang, the final frontier in northern Vietnam. Get ready to be blown away by the incredible limestone pinnacles and granite outcrops! The far north of the province is absolutely stunning! The journey between Yen Minh and Dong Van, and then across the Mai Pi Leng Pass to Meo Vac is truly breathtaking. Ha Giang is a hidden gem in the region, and we really wish more people knew about it! It's right on the border with China, which is probably why it's not as popular as other places nearby.
Ha Giang is a real treat for active travellers! You'll love exploring the Happiness Road, the incredible Dong Van Plateau, the fascinating Khau Vai Love Market, the breathtaking Quan Ba Sky Gate, and the majestic, winding, and twisting passes. Down in the valley, hidden away in the clouds, you'll find some lovely, simple, rustic villages full of friendly H'mong people.
The incredible, winding roads in the Ha Giang rocky plateau are not just a challenge for those who love to explore and move, but they also have a way of making an impact on people. Many find them "heartbreaking" because of their sheer beauty.
The lovely green scenery along those roads is so vibrant and alive! It's like a beautiful, magical wonderland, full of wonder and awe. It's truly a sight to behold and leaves you feeling amazed and inspired.
Day 01: Hanoi – Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang Cycling Loop Tours
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we set off on an adventure! We left the hustling and bustling city behind and headed to the north-east of Vietnam, to the beautiful Ha Giang province. Get ready to be blown away by the incredible scenery and lush landscapes along the way to the Far North of Vietnam! You'll even get to have lunch with the local people!
After lunch, we'll get our bikes fixed up and then it's time for the best part: our incredible cycling tours in the Far North of Vietnam!
Get ready for an amazing adventure as we embark on a scenic bike ride along a winding road that takes us from one village to the next. We'll be exploring single track trails, dirt roads, and even buffalo roads, crossing streams and passing through picturesque rice terrace paddy fields. As we ride, we meet different hill tribes, such as the Coin Dzao, Tay, Nung and Hmong people, who have been living in this area for hundreds of years. They create dreamlike scenery and unique cultural values. Cycling on back roads leads to eco-villages where we can relax and observe the daily life of people in this community. We have dinner and stay overnight in Ha Giang Wing Bungalow.

Day 03: Yen Minh – Mau Due – Lung Phin - Dong Van Bike Ride
Today is an amazing day for cycling in the incredible Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark! We took a detour onto a minor road that took us on a lovely, rolling route before descending into the valley. Here we have the amazing opportunity to ride through tiny hill-tribe communities and eventually reach a bustling village market where we will find a dazzling array of brightly-costumed villagers trading everything from piglets to bamboo shoots and forest fodder.
After following a river for a short while, we come across the ruins of an ancient defensive wall. Just beyond, we start to climb! A gradient similar to the day before is a fantastic warm-up before the main climb to come after lunch. As we enter the Ha Giang Plateau, the scenery is nothing short of mind-blowing – it's even more impressive than before! At each stage, you find yourself wondering how on earth you could possibly continue to climb when you've already climbed so much, but it just goes on and on with an amazing variety of scenery! Get ready for an amazing day of cycling in the heart of the incredible Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark! Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel and then head over to the nearby hill tribe market for a quick visit. After that, it's time to hit the road on the way of Happiness to Dong Van! Next, we'll stop to visit and explore the incredible Hmong King Palace (also known as Vuong Chi Sinh Palace). Then, we'll continue cycling to the breathtaking Lung Cu Pole Flag Tower!
As we cycle along the modest road from Dong Van to Meo Vac, we are treated to spectacular views of a vast gorge. This road is a real treat! It winds and undulates, and the Nho Que River is there to greet you at every turn. From the incredible Ma Phi Leng Pass, we look down into the valley from an amazing altitude of around 1500m. We're staying tonight in the lovely little town of Meo Vac. It's so inspiring to see that most of the tribes living here have managed to preserve their way of life, free from outside influence. It's incredible that they've managed to do this, especially given that travelling to Meo Vac was almost impossible until the recent construction of new roads.
