The best time to visit Hoang Su Phi is from late August to April, during the dry season when the terraced fields are at their most vibrant. For trekking adventures, be sure to pack comfortable shoes, a light backpack, a camera, and plenty of water, especially during the summer months.

Hoang Su Phi is perfectly positioned near other iconic destinations like the colorful Bac Ha Market and the famous Sapa. Day 1: Hanoi – Hoang Su Phi – Thong Nguyen

Kick off your 8-day trekking tour in Northern Vietnam with an exciting journey from Hanoi to Hoang Su Phi. After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, meet your support team and driver for a scenic transfer covering 300 km (approximately 7.5–8 hours). As you leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind, enjoy several stops along the way to stretch your legs and witness the changing landscapes of Northeastern Vietnam.

By mid-afternoon, arrive in Thong Nguyen, a charming commune in Hoang Su Phi District, where you’ll be greeted by an experienced local guide. Take a short 15-minute rest before embarking on a light trek to Nam Hong Village, a small hamlet nestled in the mountainside. This 2-hour trek offers a glimpse into the daily lives of the Red Dao ethnic minority group, known for their vibrant culture and traditions.

After reaching the village, check into a local homestay and unwind before enjoying a delicious dinner. Savor traditional dishes such as “Thit Lon Man” (marinated pork) and “Thang Co” (a hearty soup), paired with locally brewed corn wine. The evening culminates with a cultural performance by the Red Dao people, where you’ll immerse yourself in their melodic songs and dances, gaining a deeper appreciation for their rich heritage.

Day 2: Hiking from Nam Hong Village to Nam Ai Village

Start your day early to soak in the fresh mountain air of Northwest Vietnam, a region renowned for its pristine landscapes and ethnic diversity. After a hearty breakfast, begin your trek from Nam Hong Village, following trails that wind through terraced rice fields and lead to Nam Khoa Village, home to the Man Ta Pan ethnic group. Take breaks along the way to admire the stunning views of the terraces, especially if you visit in September, when the fields are golden with ripe rice—a truly unforgettable sight.

As you hike, immerse yourself in the daily life of the local communities. Meet the Man Ta Pan and Long Tunics Dao people, who are often seen working in their fields or gardens. Engage with them to learn about their unique culture and traditions. Don’t miss the chance to capture the bright smiles and curious eyes of the local children, adding a heartwarming touch to your journey.

Enjoy a homemade lunch with a Man Ta Pan family, savoring authentic flavors and experiencing their warm hospitality. After a short rest, continue your trek through the lush landscapes, where you’ll encounter century-old Shan tea plants. Known for their white-haired buds, these tea plants are a symbol of Vietnam’s tea heritage. Take a moment to appreciate their beauty and learn about their significance from the locals.

In the evening, arrive at a Long Tunics Dao family’s home for dinner. Relish traditional dishes unique to their culture and join in a cultural performance showcasing their music and dances. Day 3: Nam Ai – Doan Ket – Tan Phong

After soaking in the breathtaking views, join the villagers in preparing traditional cakes, which you’ll enjoy for breakfast—a unique cultural activity available year-round.

Today’s hiking adventure takes you from the Eco Homestay to Tan Phong CBT Village, a journey filled with scenic beauty and cultural encounters. Trek through cozy villageshillside rice paddiestea farms, and herbal plantations, immersing yourself in the daily lives of the Dao ethnic communities. Stop for a homemade lunch along the way, savoring local flavors while surrounded by nature.

In the afternoon, descend through lush green hillsdeep valleys, and endless terraced rice fields, marveling at the stunning landscapes of Hoang Su Phi. Your trek concludes at a sealed road, where a car will pick you up for a short transfer to Tan Phong CBT Village. If you’re feeling energetic, you can continue trekking to the village on foot.

Upon arrival, unwind at your homestay with a relaxing herbal bath and massage, a traditional therapy of the Red Dao people. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner with your hosts, followed by a vibrant cultural performance. This region is renowned for its stunning landscapes and cultural richness, making it a highlight of your Vietnam trekking tour. By 11:30 AM, enjoy a homemade lunch with a Tay ethnic family, savoring traditional dishes while learning about their way of life.

After lunch, continue your journey to Suoi Thau CBT Village, where you’ll be greeted by breathtaking panoramic views of the valley. From the mountain top, admire the endless terraced rice fields and the charming Suoi Thau Village below. If you’re lucky, you might witness a local blacksmith at work, showcasing traditional craftsmanship.

Take a refreshing break at a picturesque waterfall before continuing your trek to your homestay in Suoi Thau Village.  Here, you’ll stay with a Long-Dressed Dao (Dao Ao Dai) family and immerse yourself in their daily life. Explore the Dao Temple, learn about their socio-economic activities, and participate in hands-on experiences like wine makingembroidery, or farming. These activities offer a unique glimpse into the cultural heritage of the Dao people. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner with your hosts, followed by a meaningful English teaching session for the local community. Follow a single-track trail and hillside route that leads you through breathtaking landscapes, offering panoramic views of the valley and the majestic Tay Con Linh Mountain.  Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the natural beauty, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of flowing streams. After lunch, continue your trek through lush scenery, crossing crystal-clear streams as you make your way to Hoang Su Phi. This region is renowned for its terraced rice fields and ethnic diversity, making it a highlight of your Vietnam trekking tour.

Upon arriving in Hoang Su Phi, your support vehicle will pick you up for a transfer to Bac Ha Town, a vibrant destination known for its colorful hill tribe markets and cultural richness. Day 6: Bac Ha – Sapa – Fansipan Peak

Kick off your day with a visit to the Bac Ha Market, the largest and most famous market in Far North Vietnam. This vibrant market is a hub of activity, where ethnic minorities like the Flower Hmong (Red Hmong)Black DaoTayNungLa Chi, and Phu La gather to trade handicraftstraditional costumeslocal food, and livestock. The market is also a social gathering, where locals exchange news and renew friendships. The best time to experience the market’s lively atmosphere is between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, so be sure to wander around, interact with the friendly locals, and soak in the vibrant culture.

By 10:30 AM, depart for Sapa Town, traveling along a scenic route with rugged mountain backdrops. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy a delicious lunch at a local Sapa restaurant. After lunch, take some time to explore Sapa Town, including the iconic Stone Church and the Old French Villas, which are beautifully covered in moss and steeped in history.

In the afternoon, embark on an unforgettable journey to Fansipan Peak, the “Roof of Indochina”. Board the Muong Hoa Train to the cable car station, where you’ll begin your ascent. As you ride the cable car, marvel at the breathtaking views of the Muong Hoa Valley and the panoramic vistas of Fansipan Mountain. This experience offers a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty, making it a highlight of your Vietnam trekking tour. Day 6 of your 8-day adventure combines cultural explorationscenic travel, and mountain adventure. Day 07:Muong Hoa Valley Trekking tour

After a refreshing rest, we embark on a breathtaking trekking adventure through the stunning landscapes of Sapa. Departing from our hotel, we follow scenic trails, winding through narrow pathways and single tracks toward Cat Cat Village, where our trek officially begins.

Our journey starts with a short walk along the main road before we descend into the picturesque Muong Hoa Valley, following a hidden trail leading to the Muong Hoa River. This route takes us deep into the heart of Lao Chai San and Lao Chai Village, home to the Black H’mong ethnic group—one of the largest and most culturally rich minority communities in Sapa. The Black H’mong people are deeply connected to their traditions, speaking their native language and proudly wearing handwoven indigo-dyed clothing, a signature of their heritage.

Continuing our trek, we arrive at Ta Van Village (1,200m), where we meet the Zay ethnic minority. With a population of approximately 38,000, the Zay people mainly reside in the mountainous regions of Northwest Vietnam. While modernization has influenced their way of life, many Zay women still wear traditional purple, blue, or green blouses, preserving their unique identity. Their homes, built from wood, bamboo, and clay, reflect their traditional architecture and deep connection to nature. To fully immerse in the local culture, we stay overnight with a friendly Zay family in Ta Van, enjoying an authentic home-cooked Vietnamese dinner and experiencing the warmth of their hospitality.

Day 08: Sapa Hiking – Explore Giang Ta Chai & Return to Hanoi

After a hearty Vietnamese breakfast, we set off on the final leg of our Sapa trekking adventure, immersing ourselves in the rich culture of the Red Dao ethnic minority in Giang Ta Chai Village. This scenic village is known for its breathtaking waterfalls, lush rice terraces, and vibrant Red Dao traditions. The Red Dao women are easily recognizable by their intricate red-embroidered clothing, silver coins, and distinctive red headscarves. Some even follow an ancient Red Dao legend, shaving their eyebrows as part of their cultural heritage.

As we continue along winding hiking trails through picturesque rice fields, we cross the Muong Hoa River and head towards Su Pan Village, a serene hill-tribe settlement offering stunning panoramic views of Sapa’s mountainous landscapes. Here, we meet our support vehicle, which will take us back to Sapa town for a well-deserved lunch featuring local specialties.  After lunch, we begin our return journey to Hanoi via the modern expressway, enjoying a comfortable 5-hour bus ride through the scenic countryside. Arriving in Hanoi by late afternoon, our incredible Sapa hiking tour comes to an end. Thank you for joining us on this unforgettable trekking adventure in Sapa!
