Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau
After breakfast at the hotel, leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind, our bus makes the two-hour transfer out of the city to Luong Son, the gateway to the outstanding mountainous area of northern Vietnam. Upon arrival in Luong Son, we start riding on undulating paved roads with stunning views of mountain valleys, sugar cane farms, and rice fields.
On the way, we will stop for refreshment and lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we take a short transfer to the bottom of Thung Khe Pass and restart to ride 34 km along the bank of Da River. Enjoy spectacular scenery dotted with Muong and Thai villages under shady trees. You will be impressed by the little school boys and girls or buffalo cowboys saying "hello" to you on the way back to their homes. We take a short break for Kodak moments or refreshment before descending to Mai Chau village. Arrive in Mai Chau in the late afternoon, cycle to Lac village for a homestay tonight. Take a shower, have dinner with traditional Thai food, and enjoy a Thai dance music performance. Overnight in a Thai homestay.
Day 2: Mai Chau - Sam Khoe Village - Pu Luong Nature Reserve
The second day of cycling offers you the outstanding natural beauty of the Mai Chau valley, dotted with Thai and Muong villages between rice terraces and paddies. We start early to ride from the homestay on a mix of single-track roads connecting one village to another. You can observe how peaceful the villages are in the morning and how they have lived here for hundreds of years. You can find out your answer as we ride further into the center of the villages, meeting and talking with some local people along the way. We stop for lunch at Sam Khoe village before heading back to Hang village. We challenge a long climb along the Ho Chi Minh trail and through Pu Luong Nature Reserve. However, you will be rewarded with breathtaking soaring limestone mountain views and magnificent terraced rice fields on the left side leading to the summit. Upon arrival at the summit, we rock and roll to Ecogarden.
Day 3: Nua Village - Pho Doan - Cam Luong - Cuc Phuong
After breakfast at Ecogarden, say goodbye to them. We start early to ride backroads to Pho Doan, the township of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. If lucky, we can visit and take photos at the colorful tribal market before crossing the bridge. We ride on the corridor path of the Nature Reserve, through sugar cane fields, and corn farms dotted with Thai and Muong tribal villages leading to Cam Luong. We are rewarded with spectacular scenery, meeting friendly local villagers. We reach the Ho Chi Minh Trail at noon. Lunch at a local restaurant in Kim Tan town. After lunch, we continue riding 45 km more on a mix of good single-track and hilly trails. The views are stunning as the rider passes through villages and over rice paddies, sugar cane, and cassava farms. Arrive at Cuc Phuong National Park in the late afternoon, check-in, and rest until dinner time. Accommodation in Cuc Phuong guesthouse or bungalow.
Day 4: Cuc Phuong National Park - Tam Coc - Hanoi
After breakfast, our minibus will take us deep into the forest. From the center of the park, we will cycle along canopied forest trails and through primeval jungle - an exclusive, tourist-free route - to the gate of the national park. We stop for refreshments and visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Center. The day's cycling continues to Dong Giao pineapple plantation, where you can enjoy fresh pineapple from local farmers sold on the roadside. We cycle out of the plantation to Tam Diep Township, transfer to Tam Coc for lunch. After lunch, take a two-hour boat ride for exploring three grottoes, the first, second, and third grottoes connected together with breathtaking scenery in open air. Then we ride through the breakthrough natural beauty of Trang An, Bai Dinh Temple, and Kenh Ga Floating Villages. Having lunch in Kenh Ga before the van transfers three hours back to Hanoi. Upon arrival in Hanoi, say goodbye. End of our trips.
