Itinerary
There's no doubt about it: Vietnam is the place to be for outdoor adventures in the 21st century! It is blessed with vibrant and stunning green jungle, colourful hill tribe people, diverse ecosystems and wildlife, abundant natural resources, lush and endless national parks, remote and secluded hill trails, rustic villages, nature reserves and friendly eco homestay families.
There is so much to see and do in this incredible country!
The 7-day Ba Be – Cao Bang Cycling Loop is an absolute must for any cycling enthusiast! It offers some of the best cycling terrain in Vietnam. Our Ba Be - Cao Bang cycle route is a hidden gem! It's virtually free of tourists and avoids Vietnam's notorious highways, making it the perfect choice for those looking to explore the country's natural beauty in peace. The Vietnamese landscape is absolutely stunning, featuring the most amazing karstic rock formations, the most incredible stilted houses with thatched roofs, and mountains nestled between the most breathtaking limestone outcrops. This region is home to the highest concentration of hill tribe people in Vietnam, which is really exciting!
Our Ba Be – Cao Bang Cycling Loop kicks off in the amazing city of Hanoi, where we'll be whisked away to the stunning Thai Nguyen Province.
We set off on a new cycling day from Thai Nguyen, and what a day it is! We cycle on a scenic road, wind our way along lush scenery and canopy forest to Ba Be Lake. Ba Be Lake is well-known for being an over 50-hectare freshwater lake at an altitude of 145m above the sea level, created by the confluence of three river tributaries after earthquakes tens of millions of years ago.
Our cycling adventure continues Tour on a challenging but rewarding route through the national park to the charming Son Dong village. We'll pedal along rolling hills along the riverside to Bao Lac town.
The following days are going to be incredible! We'll tackle some challenging hills as we cycle through the stunning Cao Bang region, surrounded by mountains and valleys.
Cao Bang is located in north-east Vietnam and is an absolute must-see! It boasts incredible natural beauty, a magnificent Ban Gioc waterfall, a range of limestone mountains surrounded by colourful ethnic minority villages, a jag Quay Son river bent towards a lush rice paddy field, and so much more! And let's not forget the vibrant traditional culture of the ethnic minority!
As you journey along the 280km road from Hanoi, the incredible Cao Bang will come into view! Winding along the mountainside, the road is flanked by stunning scenery and traditional stilts houses belonging to the area's ethnic minorities. Tay, Nung!
During the cycling loop, you are free to explore the magnificent but equally poetic beauty of the limestone mountains mingled with the cloudy mountains. Climb to the top of the mountain to see the panoramic view of the winding Quay Son river, drifting along the Ngoc. It's an incredible sight! You can even explore the rice fields or join the kayaking on the Quay Son stream to the Ban Gioc waterfall!
Cycling on dirt roads, rugged and rocky, you can cycle along lush green rice fields or concrete village roads to feel the simple beauty and everyday life of the ethnic people here.
Day 01; Hanoi – Ba Be
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we'll bid the city a fond farewell and hop on a shuttle bus for an exhilarating two-hour transfer on the new highway in Thai Nguyen. Once we get to the cycling point, we'll start our journey on a lovely tarmac road, taking us through to the beautiful, untouched region of ATK (safety zones) – a former Vietminh revolutionary base. Get ready for an amazing ride! We can't wait to cycle through a peaceful village and enjoy the stunning scenery on our way to the far north of Vietnam!
We're so thrilled to give you the incredible opportunity to visit a village that makes paper! After lunch in a lovely local restaurant, we'll recharge our batteries before heading back on our bikes for another incredible scenic route, this time through a forest with trees overhead and mountains in the distance. We'll be climbing up some hills, following the river, passing through some lovely little villages, and then descending into the beautiful lakeside area where our cosy lakeside bungalow will be waiting for us.
