Itinerary
The Far North of Vietnam is home to some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in the world. From ancient, awe-inspiring forests to meticulously crafted terraced fields nestled against the slopes of mountains, this region is truly a photographer's paradise. The area's unique, iconic landscapes have been featured in countless photographs, capturing the imagination of travelers from all over the globe. You probably already know about these amazing tribes, who still live in their traditional ways in the most remote areas of South East Asia. And there's no better place to witness their incredible culture than Ha Giang Province, which is relatively new to travellers and still largely undiscovered.
Hoang Su Phi is undoubtedly one of the most untouched regions of Vietnam. It's incredible that communities have lived in total isolation from mainstream society until very recently! At an average elevation of 800 m above sea level, this area boasts high mountains, deep valleys, streams and forestland, making it an area of outstanding natural beauty and unspoiled traditional life.
You'll feel like you're on top of the world! On this cycling trip, we'll meander around villages, rice and maize terraces cultivated by the Red Dao and Tay tribes. As we pedal along our route to eco-villages or bungalows, the air is filled with the aromatic scents of cardamom and star anise.
Our mountain bike tours in the Far North of Vietnam are some of the most amazing in South East Asia! Every day is a new adventure! We'll climb and descend the various altitudes of the Ha Giang Plateau, taking in different terrain, gradients, vistas, and climates along the way. This is a ride you'll never forget! Even if the memory of burning leg muscles doesn't stick with you, your amazing photographs surely will.
Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime with our 12-day Vietnam Mountain Bike Tours in Northern Vietnam! We've handpicked the two most incredible tourist spots in the north of Vietnam, promising an unforgettable experience for all you outdoor enthusiasts out there. At an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level, the towering mountains are cloaked in a shroud of clouds, creating a cool climate all year round.
At the foot of the mountain are some truly incredible sights! Massive tropical primeval forests, waterfalls and streams that irrigate fertile fields, creating truly breathtaking pictures of nature. The surrounding valleys and high mountain slopes are home to the fascinating ethnic minority villages of the Hmong, Dao, Day, and Tay. These villages are alive with unique and attractive cultural colours, evident in the daily life, festivals, and weekend markets.
Cycling on dirt roads and small concrete roads winding through terraced fields is an absolute delight! You'll follow the stream to reach the peaceful, quiet villages nestled under the canopy of ancient trees. And don't forget to try your best with countless small steep slopes weaving in the ravine, hidden in the morning mist – it's an incredible experience!
As we climb to the top, our emotions are transformed. A whole magical and majestic scene appears in front of us, radiant and beautiful. The fatigue that we were carrying suddenly dissolves along with the white clouds radiating in all four directions.
Day 01: Hanoi Arrival – Transfer to Lao Cai
Vietnam's absolutely gorgeous and serene capital is right at the heart of the northern Red River Delta. Hanoi is a city of incredible beauty, with its lakes and leafy boulevards that still retain an air of French colonial elegance. Hanoi is the perfect place to enjoy some delicious coffee and baguettes! Some people even call it the 'Paris of the East'! But the city's roots go all the way back to 1010 AD.
Upon arrival in Hanoi, you will be greeted with a warm welcome and whisked away to Lao Cai Border City for an exciting four-hour adventure! Get ready to explore and enjoy the absolutely pristine nature of northern Vietnam!
And now for something really special! You'll have lunch en route. And then, after lunch, we'll be on our way! Our fantastic shuttle bus will take you through some of the most stunning scenery you'll ever see, as well as some truly rustic hill tribe villages, all the way to Lao Cai city. Check in to your hotel and then head out to a local restaurant for a delicious dinner! And now for something really special! Lao Cai is a border city to China.
This is the principal town in Lao Cai Province in north-eastern Vietnam, right on the border with Yunnan province, China! The border was closed from 1979 to 1993 following a war with China, but the town has since been rebuilt with modern architecture! The town is now a must-visit destination for anyone travelling between Hanoi or Sa Pa and Kunming in China. It's also a key trading post, so there's plenty to see and do!
